CONTEXT
In 2022, sharing music with friends meant relying on third party apps like WhatsApp and Instagram. For a platform built around music discovery, there was no native way to share a song in the app, which felt out of character and interrupted the user flow. So I set out to conceptualise what it could look like.

THE PROBLEM
Whilst users enjoy sharing music with friends, there's no streamlined way to do it in the app, which breaks the flow.
Alternatively, there's no organised way to keep track of songs sent to you by others.
THE SOLUTION
In-app song sharing option to send songs to friends. Additionally, an automatically aggregated playlist to serve as a designated place for you to find all suggested songs for easier listening and discovery management.
THE DESIGN
Send on Spotify
Back in 2022, sharing songs within the app was not an option. I imagined what this might look like within Spotify's existing UI.

Revitalising the "Friends Activity" window
I envisioned songs sent by friends would appear in the "Friends Activity" window, enhancing the use of this social feature to cement Spotify as a social music streamer.
A designated space for friends' recommendations
Inspired by the habit of creating mixtapes and the data showing user generated playlists dominate Spotify, I ideated that all songs sent to users would be automatically aggregated into a playlist, making it easier for users to manage song suggestions and find them at a later date.
THE OUTCOME
In August 2025, Spotify released an in-app messaging feature within its platform.
Whilst I'm still hoping the automated playlist will soon follow, it reiterates my research and designed outcome accurately anticipated user needs and Spotify's product roadmap.
